The Prussian philosopher Immanuel Kant was one of the most important European thinkers and the last representative of the Enlightenment, who influenced the later romantic and idealist philosophers of the 19th century. He was born in Královka in East Prussia (today's Kaliningrad), where he lived his entire life. He studied philosophy, natural sciences and mathematics at the local university. He later obtained the professorship of logic and metaphysics and taught both these fields along with ethics, physics, aesthetics and anthropology. The design of the stamp is a reference to Kant's thoughts and his time. The author depicted a portrait of Immanuel Kant, a starry sky and an empire portico. The starry sky refers to Kant's famous statement "The starry sky above me and the moral law in me" set in a frame from the Empire Portico.
