Hungary - St. Stephen's Hall - Presentation Book

The interior of St. Stephen's Hall was made in the Neo-Romanesque style, but at certain points the artists also gave room for Hungarian ornamentation and Hungarian character, for example. Alajos Hauszmann gathered around him the best of Hungarian craftsmen to create together a masterpiece of Hungarian applied art at the turn of the century. For example, Endre Thék, Alajos Strobl and Gyula Jungfer also worked on the equipment. The collection of masterpieces of applied art also won the approval of the ruler, Franz Joseph, who ordered that the furnishings should also be presented at the 1900 Paris World's Fair. The hall, built in the French capital, has earned the Grand Prix of the World Expo, among other awards. The ornate room in the Buda Castle, which was opened in 1902, could also be visited by the general public. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during World War II and was not restored. Finally, it was reborn in an authentic way within the framework of the National Hauszmann Program. Its interior layout, use of materials, decoration and furniture follow the original, former Hauszmannian idea in everything. The reconstruction was aided by the surviving plans, sketches and photographs. It reopened to the public on August 20, 2021
